Discover Yourself is a two week programme designed to provide Lone Parents with an environment in which they can explore who they are, and what they would like to achieve. It provides them with a choice of tools and methods they can use to develop their confidence and build their self-esteem to a level which enables them to take the first steps towards their goals and aspirations. A further week of job search and tasters is available for those clients who wish to have some one-to-one time with an experienced advisor.

We conduct a highly regarded apprentice scheme for young people who wish for a secure and rewarding career in contracting.  All we ask of you is commitment, motivation and diligence. 

The basic features of the scheme are as follows:

1. It is of 4 years duration.

2. Leads to qualification at NVQ Level 3.

3. Craft training will be given on site, supplemented by technical training at college (one day per week for the first two years and somewhat less in the third year).

4. It is totally funded, in the main by Vallectric and JTL (the technical training provider).

5. Recognised by the Electrical Contractors Association and Electrical Union (AMACUS).

6. The training provider JTL is a company jointly owned by the ECA and AMACUS.

7. All qualifications obtained are internationally recognised.

What is it? The Wheels to Work Project offers solutions to transport problems for people living or working in a rural location.

A person can apply to come onto the scheme if they are going into full time employment or education (more than 16 hours per week) & are having difficulty accessing public transport. If the travelling distance is between 4 to 25 miles, then Wheels to Work may be your sollution.

After completing an application form, an initial assessment is made & a meeting will be arranged between the applicant & Project Manager/Coordinator. If successful, the applicant will be booked onto a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) day & once completed will be issued with a moped.

The moped comes fully insured & taxed. A helmet & gloves are supplied & all services are carried out at the expense of the project. An initial set up fee of £50 (non refundable) is required at the start of the loan period, to cover admin costs for insurance purposes & a fee of £6 is payable for each week that a person is on the scheme.

The moped is loaned for a period of 6 months & a review is undertaken every 4 weeks. After the 6 months, in exceptional circumstances, the scheme can be extended for another 3 or 6 months if it is felt that it would be beneficial to the participant.

During the period of loan, the participant is encouraged to look for alternative means of transport, e.g. driving lessons, purchase of own moped. Whilst on the scheme the moped can also be used to access social activities. Any misuse would result in the immediate removal of the moped.
